The origin of Christianity in Neyyattinkara area can be traced back to 1600 A.D. The people who received baptism came and settled in Neyyattinkara, Amaravila and Parassal areas. The first church in this diocese was established in 1755 at Amaravila. Attempts were made to start a mission at Nemom in 1698 and in 1770 Nemom Mission could be started. The Diocese of Neyyattinkara was established on 14th June 1996 The Diocese covers an area of 1498 Sq. Km in Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara Taluks of Thiruvananthapuram district. Patron of the Diocese is St.Joseph. Headquarters of the Diocese is Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram.
