DIOCESE OF TRIVANDRUM

History

Christianity in Thiruvananthapuram region dates back its origin before the arrival of Portuguese. The Diocese of Trivandrum was created on July 1, 1937 with the four Taluks of Neyyattinkara, Nedumangad, Trivandrum and Chirainkeezhu, bifurcated from the Diocese of Quilon. On July 16, 1996 the Diocese is bifurcated to form the new Diocese of Neyyattinkara. Now the Diocese of Trivandrum has the territory consisting of Trivandrum and Chiyainkeezhu Taluks, with a strip of coastal belt from Kovalam to Pozhiyoor in Neyyattinkara Taluk and Neerody to Eramainthurai in Kanya Kumari District of Tamil Nadu covering an area of 686 Sq.km. Boundaries of the Diocese are Diocese of Quilon on the North, Diocese of Neyyattinkara on the East, the Diocese of Kottar in the South and Arabian Sea in the West. The Patroness of the Diocese is St.Theresa of Child Jesus. Headquarters of the Diocese is at Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram – 695003.
