Odathil mosque is an old mosque constructed around 1800. The site where the mosque had been constructed was a sugarcane garden owned by the Dutch and later by British. Odam means garden in Dutch and hence the mosque constructed there was known as Odathil Palli or Odathil Mosque. The construction of the mosque is in the typical Kerala style of architecture. The roof of the mosque is covered with copper plates and has golden crown. Though all Muslims can offer prayers in the mosque, only the dead bodies of Keyis (a sect of Muslims) alone are permitted to cremate in the grave yard attached to the mosque. |

The Cheraman masjid is the first mosque in India, built in 629 AD by Malik Ibn Dinar. Malik Ibn Dinar was a disciple of Prophet Mohamed.
