Wayanadan Chetty is a community found in Wayanad district. It is believed that the ‘Chetty’ is a title of the community. Their mother tongue is Malayalam.  and grouped under Other Backward Classes. They are non-vegetarians. They maintain nuclear families. Earlier, they followed marumakkathayam system of inheritance, which has been given up years ago. Traditionally they are agriculturists. They are also engaged in animal husbandry and business.

They observe pulikudy. Post delivery pollution continues for 90 days.  Naming ceremony and choroonu is held after six months. They perform therandukalyanam. They also celebrate thalikettu ceremony within a period of one year from therandukalyanam. Two thalies are tied to the girl; one by the maternal uncle and the other by the grandmother or a near female relative of the girl. This is a type of mock marriage and actual marriage will not be allowed to perform without conducting thalikettu ceremony. Real marriage takes place at the bride’s residence. The bridegroom ties thali around the neck of bride. They cremate their dead. Death pollution is observed for 16 days.
