Naya Paise (denominations of coins following decimal system) came into force. The denominations in circulation were 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 (naya)paise and one rupee which remained as the same pre-decimal value. The word "naya" was dropped in 1964. |

Kuttikrishna Marar passed away. Kuttikrishna Marar (14 June 1900 – 6 April 1973) was an essayist and literary critic who showed courage to question anything that he felt wrong in the field of literary criticism. His work on Bharathaparyadanam - A critical study of the Mahabharata. He received 'Sahithya Ratnam' award from Pattambi Sree Neelakanda Sanskrit College and 'Sahithya nipunan' award and the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award. |
